Precinct Executive

Two Pathways to Become a Precinct Executive

1. Election (during Gubernatorial Primaries)

Precinct Executives are typically elected during the Democratic Primary in even-numbered “gubernatorial” election years. The next such election will be in May 2026.

  • To run for election, you must be a registered Democrat and reside in the precinct you wish to represent.
  • Elected Precinct Executives become members of the County Central Committee, the governing body of the Hamilton County Democratic Party.

2. Appointment (to fill a vacancy)

If a precinct executive position is vacant, the Hamilton County Democratic Party Executive Committee may appoint a qualified individual to fill the unexpired term. This is the most common method to join between primary elections.

  • You must be a resident and a registered voter in the precinct where the vacancy exists.
  • Contact the HCDP directly to inquire about current vacancies and the application process.

How to Get Started

  1. Verify your precinct: Ensure you know your specific voting precinct and check if it currently has a precinct executive. The HCDP can help you with this information.
  2. Contact the HCDP: The best way to begin is by reaching out to the Hamilton County Democratic Party (HCDP) directly. Fill out the interest form:
  3. Attend meetings and volunteer: Getting involved with a local neighborhood Democratic club or volunteering for campaigns can help you connect with current party leaders and demonstrate your commitment.

Core Responsibilities

As a precinct executive, you are the local grassroots leader for the party in your neighborhood. Key responsibilities include:

  • Registering voters and encouraging civic participation.
  • Mobilizing Democratic turnout through activities like canvassing, phone banking, and letter writing.
  • Distributing official HCDP-endorsed slate cards at your polling place on Election Day.
  • Voting on party leadership and candidate endorsements as a member of the Central Committee.
